Yoga Nidra deep relaxation classes are great to switch off and completely relax. These classes emphasise your comfort and you are in charge of the practice.
When getting ready, ensure that you are in a quiet space where you can easily lay down. A sofa, bed or exercise mat on a carpet work well.
You can dim the lights if you want to.
Ask others in your household to respect your time to relax and close the door. If you have pets that love joining in, consider of ways to include them. A crying pet outside your room will not help you relax.
Ensure that children are with a responsible adult and know not to disturb.
Wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict you.
Consider having cushions and blankets available to ensure you can lay down in a supported position. A few ideas for such positions are listed below.
Your body temperature might drop during practice. So, wrapping yourself into a blanket is recommended unless you are in a hot environment.
Some like having an eye mask or eye pillow. If you are new to this practice, maybe try a hand towel or wash cloth to cover your eyes. If you do not feel comfortable with it, then just practice without. It will not impact your experience.
Some people like to practice with relaxing music whilst others prefer silence. Your confirmation email will contain links to playlists you can use. Ensure that the sound is not too loud so that you can follow my voice and bear in mind that some phones or iPads might not play YouTube or Spotify while being on Zoom. Laptops normally manage.
This practice works at intentionally relaxing and releasing tension. You are welcome to add anything else you might find relaxing to support it. If using candles, please consider battery operated ones to avoid the risk of fire should you fall asleep. A drop of your favourite essential oil on your chest or near the clavicle may be nice too.
