Joint Chair and Mat Yoga class

 

1 hour Yoga for Functional Movement works to improve core stability and strength. Classes aim to train everyday movements by gently supporting participants in strengthening their muscles and training body awareness and balance. These classes can be done seated in a chair or on a yoga mat depending on the individual. 

 

Tuesdays 18:15 - 19.15

Friends Meeting House, 55 Leicester Road, New Barnet,  EN5 5EL 

 

Prices:

Drop in rate: £17

Semester subscription: £75 

£15 per class for half term starting 23 September to 21 October (Includes access to recordings of sessions on ThriveCart).

 

Classes include:

 

-    Grounding and breath exercises

-    Yoga asanas seated and standing

-    Somatic exercises to improve coordination and strength

-    Resistance work with resistance bands

-    Fascia exercises

-    Final relaxation with guided visualisation

 

 

Who is it for?

 

-    Anyone wishing to improve their core strength and balance

-    People wishing to exercise seated 

 

 

When shall I practise in a chair?

 

If you cannot get up and down to the floor easily by yourself. The chair exercises will target the same or very similar muscle groups. 

 

 

Is this therapy / physiotherapy?

 

No, this is a chair / mat yoga class that aims to strengthen and work on improving everyday movement patterns. If you have a recent complaint or injury, please seek support through medical channels. 

 

 

What do I need:

 

-    Nonslip yoga mat if practising on a mat

-    Comfortable clothing in which you can move

-   be bare foot or with non-slip socks

-    Bottle of water

-    Layer of warm clothing or blanket for final relaxation 

 

 

Your teacher:

 

Dr Astrid Bernkopf has been a professional ballet and taught ballet and theory at university. She has completed her 200hrs yoga teacher training in 2020 and has since taught a variety of populations. Astrid is also qualified Meditation teacher, completed training for fascia flossing, accessible chair yoga and accessible yoga. Astrid believes that yoga can support our wellbeing and works to adapt practice to support the individual person.

Yoga for carers offer 1 hour of nervous system reset through yoga movements, fascia release and deep relaxation / guided visualisation. The sessions will be mat-based for those who wish to reduce stress, take a break from intense jobs and sensory overstimulation.

-    The average person who can easily get up and down to the floor

-    Anyone at risk of burnout 

-    Teachers, carers, nurses, doctors, paramedics and other frontline workers are welcome – we can accommodate participants on call

-    Relatives caring for others

 

What to bring: 

 

-    A non-slip yoga mat
